幽霊, TOGETHER! – Into Your Eyes

Into Your Eyes is an old-school ECCOJAMS extended-play by “post-death” producer 幽霊, TOGETHER!1 of DMT Tapes FL.2 The album’s seven tracks are classic-style vaporwave with an old AM-radio sheen comparable to releases found on the Fortune 500 label.3 Each song has a general late night feel, with heavy utilization of lyrical samples. There are fewer production effects on the voices than one would expect for an album going for a classic bent: other than “I want to 知っています,” most of the voices themselves have relatively little screw. “ｋｅｅｐ ｈｏｌｄｉｎｇ ｏｎ” applies a phaser to adult contemporary music in a manner that will be familiar to those fans of the Elemental 95 label (in addition to the aforementioned Fortune 500), and “ｔｅｌｌ ｉｔ ｔｏ ｍｙ ｈｅａｒｔ” has a nice super-gated drumbeat that gives it a trippy flow. There’s a whispered rap on “Ｏ Ｖ Ｉ Ｄ” that’s kind of weird and causes some pops and clicks on the recording that distract. Give the selected tracks a listen.
