Verbatim Consciousness Recordings releases “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” by Jorge

“Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” is the title of a sermon made by Jonathan Edwards in pre-Revolutionary War USA. It’s notable for extreme images of hellfire and brimstone, with a focus on the horror and mind-destroying eternity of punishment that would be Hell to the damned and the unbelieving. It’s a powerful and wickedly intense sermon, and it’s one of the hallmarks of the early fundamentalist movement within the USA; if your local pastor has a taste for charismatic descriptions of God’s wrath, then it’s likely he/she was influenced by Edwards – either directly or through the long line of similarly-influenced theologians before him/her.

So what does this have to do with the new album out on VCR? Well, it’s definitely not what I expected, that’s for sure: Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God by Jorge is new age and classic-style vaporwave rolled up in a five-track EP. The opening track “バグ目” is a capella new age at nine minute in length, and the other four tracks are all bite-sized little vaporwave sections and bits of experimental electronic music. It’s available as a pay-what-you-want digital download.
