虚拟梦想广场 – 爱的吸收

Recommendation: ☀☁☁

Once in a while, an installment of telepath’s Virtual Dream Plaza project (written in script as 仮想夢プラザ) will receive a label release. For example: あなたを待って1 was released on TKX Vault, and 破片2 was released on Dream Catalogue. 爱的吸收1 is the only VDP album to be released on Nirvana Port, and unlike most of the VDP albums, it is not affiliated with any series or official/unofficial “trilogy” of other works. Even the name is slightly different: “虚拟梦想广场” roughly translates to “Virtual Dream Square”, although with the context of a “plaza.”

爱的吸收 is one of the swirliest VDP albums in the entire VDP catalogue. As with all VDP releases, it’s a thirty-something minute track mixed as a single suite of music. 爱的吸收 is one of the least “musical” albums in the project4 – not in the sense of “noise” music, but in that the album primarily focuses on imparting a heavy weight of digital effects5 and manipulations than it is about carrying a melody. Listening to 爱的吸收 is like wandering around in mist for half an hour; delicate and ethereal, but enveloping. Female vocals come through the fog, and they offer a faint resemblance of melody that underpins 爱的吸收‘s churning depths.

This is a fantastic album for non-attentive listening.6 Put it on if you’re trying to get work done: it’s kind of like musical white noise7 in that it provides just enough aural stimulation to keep the brain focused without overpowering the senses.8

Tracklist

1. 爱的吸收 – (31:30)

1The second-ever VDP album.
2The first installment to the third chapter of VDP.
3Japanese translation: “The absorption of love”, according to Google Translate, but I think a better translation would be “Love sucks”.
4At least, to what I’ve listened thus far. It’s a lot of stuff!
5So-to-speak.
6I listened to this while editing an analysis plan at work and was 100% focused.
7Yes, I know I just said that it’s not non-musical in the sense of noise music, but I didn’t have another phrase that worked so just roll with me here.
8I run into this problem all the time when I listen to death metal at work. Black metal works better.
