ЖЫ – RUSKE ANDEGRAUND
Recommendation: ☹
RUSKE ANDEGRAUND was released near the beginning of the hardvapor scene, which utilizes Soviet and Eastern European imagery and noise/distortion with techno. This release is the first of two from ЖЫ,1 both released on a Dream Catalogue imprint called TKX Vault that focuses on experimental, noise, and dreampunk music. It’s a sound collage of various spoken word and non-musical sources, few of which are identifiable or understandable. It’s similar to follow-up Huylowave in many respects, but Huylowave is definitely the stronger and more listenable album. Check out RUSKE ANDEGRAUND if you’re really, really interested in hardvapor; even then, it doesn’t have much in common with the hardvapor aesthetic except by way of the Russian imagery – or whatever the creator thinks Russia is like.
