AOTW | Unenlightenment – The Empty Disco

The Empty Disco is proof that classic-style vaporwave is still a worthwhile cause. Okay, that’s probably a bit too sardonic, but it’s true: this album by Unenlightenment is a great example of classic-style vaporwave’s ability to recontextualize samples from disparate sources and turn them into something that transcends their source material. Released in the second half of 2016, The Empty Disco utilizes late night appeal and dancey rhythms to create a feeling of nameless, directionless bars and clubs on endless nights in downtown. It’s one of those albums that’s just genuinely fun, and it has one of the coolest album artworks out there. Enjoy!
