AOTW | 15 May – 21 May: メディカル – Coma
Coma is an album by メディカル, a project of BLCR Laboratories co-founder gorepup (who is also the creator of the Acid Medical label). This release is nearly fifty minutes of the gentlest, most peaceful ambient music made this side of Brian Eno’s Discreet Music – but with a slight twist. It ostensibly details the effects of a sustained medically-induced Coma, with tracks referencing different biological compounds that are of particular importance within the medical field. As with follow-up UNDERDOSE, this release focuses on extreme drone that barely pushes along when under the knife. It’s recommended for anyone interested in modern drone music, and it’s a rather unique release in its themes on the sterility and somewhat dehumanizing nature of comas, when you’re more body than human.
