AOTW | July 25 – July 31: computer slime – ミスト

ミスト encompasses much of the early dealings in the “signalwave” subgenre, whereby candid microsamples from unidentifiable sources are cut and pasted outside of their context into a new cohesive work. The cool part about computer slime’s only full-length album is how entirely transient each song is: this is a textbook example of music that is by-and-large forgettable background fluff that simply fills space. Although that sounds like a bad thing for any other album, it’s actually what makes ミスト an incredibly successful album in the context of vaporwave.
