[Catch-Up] Series 200/OESB releases “Dragon Soul” by HKE

One of the most high-profile releases of the past week was Dragon Soul by HKE, originally announced in early December 2016 (a year that already feels so long ago). Dragon Soul continues HKE’s exploration of dreampunk and ambient textures within modern electronic music with East Asian influences. In fact, this album probably utilizes East Asian textures – e.g. a gong, the damn title – more than any of his releases since the self-titled Hong Kong Express album of last summer. It’s “cinematic” similar to Lonely Streets out on Crystaltone, with just a little bit of lo-fi sheen to give it just a bit of age. Dragon Soul is available for $10 USD as a digital download. It’s also available on black vinyl for $25 USD and on red vinyl for $28 USD in an edition of 777; all vinyl purchases include a fold-out poster. Finally, cassette editions are available in an edition of 210 for $12 USD.
