2 is a short EP of classic-style vaporwave by 新しいコンピュータのOS 98,¹ available through STC Records.² 2 is a standard classic-style vaporwave album that utilizes pitch- and tempo-shifting of extant samples with some glitchy repetition. Half of the six tracks don’t even break two minutes. They have a small amount of dust on them in the production – just enough so you can tell that this is supposed to be old music. The general composition of the songs feature very lo-fi MIDI drums and synths that have something of a game-show feel to them. The melodies are vibrant and uplifting – and utterly sterile, fitting with the pushy corporate culture of some strains of classic-style vaporwave.

A lot of albums do what 2 does. It might be short, but without the awesome microsample of “IBMのPCセール”, it’d be just another chapter in a long line of identical muzak albums. However, that track “IBMのPCセール” may be worth grabbing. It keeps skipping and speeding up, like a Shepard tone except tempo.
