RETRIEVAL CORPORATION is a British artist who came on the scene with 2016’s Memetik Apocalypse. DESTROY THE OHD is the artist’s second EP, released through Hardvapour Resistance Front (a.k.a. HVRF). This five-track release is… chillwave? On my HVRF?! Yup, the five tracks here are moderate-bpm chillwave songs with relatively upbeat synth lines – something that might surprise listeners who are used to the industrial/gabber-tinged techno music that encompasses much of the HVRF catalogue. Of note: “Incorrect Syntax” features a trap beat that appears in the last third of the track, and “It All Happens So Fast…” tempo-shifts a DnB beat. Pretty different, but whoever said that was a bad thing?
