NOW1 is a five-track EP from Eternal Showers, a project known only by pseudonym. This release comes from Pyramids, which, along with close collaborator Tekres, was one of two labels to release “ghost tech” music that applied an introverted bend to hardvapour industrial/gabber aesthetics. NOW incorporates significant downtempo as opposed to the busyness of other Pyramids releases like those by AUT2M, HKE, and Sandtimer. In lieu of garage and techno, the melodies on NOW are exceptionally sparse, with the focus mostly on the percussion that isn’t too far removed from Burial. However, the sparseness oftentimes dips into the same problem that plagued a lot of the 2000s releases from Autechre, where there isn’t much in the way of actually tying together songs, so the end result sounds like a bunch of rough sketches of rhythm that were not fleshed out prior to publishing. NOW is not necessary for the Pyramids experience.

1Growing up in Florida, I feel like I know exactly where the photograph for the album artwork was taken. Just go outside on a summer day and wait for the rain.
