AOTW | 21 May – 27 May: メディッカル medicalmechanica メチャニッカー – Gradient Sedan

Gradient Sedan is the second full-length released by メディッカル medicalmechanica メチャニッカー and their first for the Swamp Circle label, an experimental music label owned and operated by Angel Marcloid, who is also responsible for all of the label’s artwork and most of its releases. Gradient Sedan merges Swamp Circle’s vapornoise aesthetic with classic-style vaporwave, utilizing some overt plunderphonics while couching it in the glitchy weirdness that characterizes the entire label. The album also features a lot of overt sound artifacts that enhance the datedness of the album, which creates an interesting juxtaposition with the very digital production screws used to create the noise aspects. Gradient Sedan is an interesting bridge between the noisier releases of Swamp Circle and the vaporwave scene’s melodic mainstream, making it a good introductory album for those curious about the label.
