猫 シ Corp. self-releases “Palm Mall Mars”

Wow, I’m embarrassed to have forgotten this one when it first came out! I blame the hiking trails. Palm Mall Mars is a fresh release from 猫 シ Corp., one of the longest-running artists in vaporwave (and has consistently released music under the same alias for quite some time). Palm Mall Mars is a mallsoft album about a mall on the planet Mars in 2199 that recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. The mallsoft tropes per 2013 and here full-force, with cavernous-sounding edits of adult contemporary and muzak that sounds like the eponymous mall has not seen a few shoppers in a while. Most tracks are significantly ambient-influenced, and there are a number of faint spoken word additions from East Asian media. The final track “Palm Mall Mars: Farcaster Station” features a collaboration with MindSpring Memories. The album is available as a pay-what-you-want digital download; all physical editions have since been sold out.
