Geometric Lullaby releases “(phantom psalms) – 幻影诗篇” by b e g o t t e n 自杀
Geometric Lullaby’s library may be roughly split between classic-style vaporwave and deeply hypnagogic, almost ambient vaporwave. The albums by b e g o t t e n 自杀 strongly fall in the latter category. (phantom psalms) – 幻影诗篇 is the label’s third release by this artist, following the community well-received (hushwave) – 治愈它. In contrast to the airy beauty of (hushwave) – 治愈它 (akin to telepath’s 仮想夢プラザ project), (phantom psalms) – 幻影诗篇 is melancholy that borders on lugubriousness. There are ten tracks present (most roughly two minutes in length) that feature extended edits of extant pop and contemporary music that have been edited to the point of unrecognizability, similar to the vaporgoth of Chinese Hackers but without the dark ambient aesthetic of that artist. The accompanying press release by Geometric Lullaby describes it as “low as in rock bottom depression” and the “heavy, slow moving, hulking counterpart” to (hushwave) – 治愈它. I am inclined to agree. Choice track is the single “(disintegrate) – 瓦解” and “(palpable) – 明显的”. The album is available as a pay-what-you-want digital download; the cassette edition is already sold out.
